Description

Delicious baked rolls with a soft dough wrapped around a sweet split-lentil filling, perfect for a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (or vegetable oil)
  • Water as needed (to form a soft dough)
  • Extra flour for dusting (for rolling out the dough)
  • 1 cup cooked split yellow lentils (chana dal)
  • 1/2 cup jaggery, grated (or more to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

Instructions

  1. Mix whole wheat flour and ghee in a bowl. Gradually add water and knead to make a soft, smooth dough. Cover and rest for 15–20 minutes.
  2. In a pan, add cooked chana dal and jaggery. Cook on low heat, stirring often until the jaggery melts and thickens.
  3. Add turmeric and cardamom powders. Cook until the filling is dry and holds shape. Let cool.
  4. Divide the dough and filling into equal small balls.
  5. Dust a work surface lightly with flour. Roll a dough ball into a small circle.
  6. Place a filling ball in the center and seal the dough around it. Gently roll into a small log shape. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
  7. Place rolls on a lined baking tray, spacing them apart.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and brush the rolls with ghee or oil.
  9. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature with tea or milk. Brush with ghee for extra shine and flavor.
