- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 4 carrots, sliced
- 4 potatoes, diced
- 2 cups peas (fresh or frozen)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the beef chunks over medium heat.
- Add onions and garlic; sauté until they are translucent.
- Stir in tomato paste, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in beef broth and bring to a boil.
- Add carrots and potatoes, then reduce heat.
- Let it simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours until the beef is tender.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, milk, melted butter, and egg to form the dumpling dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture onto the simmering stew.
- Cover and cook for an additional 15 minutes until the dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
- Stir in peas right before serving.
Notes
Marinate beef for extra flavor. Use fresh herbs for a fresher taste. Avoid overcooking dumplings.
