Cheesy Pull-Apart Christmas Tree Bread

A fun and festive holiday bread perfect for gatherings, filled with gooey cheese and aromatic herbs.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup milk or water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 8½ oz mozzarella cheese, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • ½ cup grated parmesan
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Marinara (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Combine all the dough ingredients except for the butter and mix until no dry flour is visible.
  2. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes in the softened butter.
  3. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until smooth and it passes the windowpane test.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise for 1-1½ hours until it doubles in size.
  5. Cut the cheese into 30-33 pieces, weighing approximately 7 grams each.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into balls weighing about 19-20 grams each; cover and let relax for 10 minutes.
  7. Insert cheese into each dough ball and arrange on parchment paper in a Christmas tree shape.
  8. Cover and let proof for 1 hour.
  9. Preheat the oven to 425ºF (218ºC).
  10. Perform a finger poke test to check if the dough is ready.
  11. Mix egg and water and apply egg wash to each dough ball.
  12. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.
  13. Brush melted butter mixed with herbs on the dough and sprinkle with grated cheese and red pepper flakes.
  14. Warm the marinara in a serving bowl for dipping.

Notes

Serve warm, accompanied by marinara for dipping. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
