Description
A time-honored dish bringing warmth and comfort to your Thanksgiving table, combining fresh herbs, savory vegetables, and soft bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups cubed sourdough or French bread
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 2 cups finely chopped celery (about 3–4 stalks)
- 2 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 4 cups low-sodium broth (chicken or vegetable)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and celery, and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the chopped fresh herbs, and cook for another minute.
- In a big bowl, combine the cubed bread with the sautéed mixture.
- Slowly pour in the broth while gently mixing the ingredients so the bread absorbs the liquid.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, then transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
Notes
Feel free to mix in other ingredients like cooked sausage, dried cranberries, or nuts. Add broth slowly to avoid sogginess. For a crispier top, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes after baking.
