Description

A hearty and warm shepherd’s pie featuring ground meat, vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh thyme and rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Boil chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15–20 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and carrots until soft.
  4. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Increase heat, add ground meat, and cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes.
  6. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, seasonings, and frozen peas; cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Drain potatoes, mash with butter and milk until creamy; season to taste.
  8. Layer meat mixture in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, creating peaks.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve hot.

Notes

Let the shepherd’s pie rest for 5 minutes after baking to firm up.
