Description

A simple and delicious side dish featuring creamy, cheesy layers of turnips, onion, and garlic.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs turnips, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  4. Layer half of the turnip slices in a greased baking dish, then half of the cheese, and half of the onion mixture. Repeat the layers.
  5. Pour the cream mixture over the top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the turnips are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve hot as a side dish or main dish with a salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
