A simple and delicious side dish featuring creamy, cheesy layers of turnips, onion, and garlic.
Ingredients

- 2 lbs turnips, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Layer half of the turnip slices in a greased baking dish, then half of the cheese, and half of the onion mixture. Repeat the layers.
- Pour the cream mixture over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the turnips are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve hot as a side dish or main dish with a salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
