Fried Cabbage and Sausage

A simple and delicious dish combining savory sausage with tender cabbage and aromatic onion, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • ½ medium head of green cabbage (45 cups, chopped)
  • 1 pound of sausage (kielbasa, smoked, or turkey)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes or smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in the minced garlic for one more minute.
  2. Add the sliced sausage to the skillet and cook until browned (7-10 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  3. Incorporate the chopped cabbage into the skillet, mixing well. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until wilted.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Cover briefly to steam until tender yet slightly crunchy (another 10 minutes).

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
