Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring gently.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes completely before preparing the frosting by whipping cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  7. Gradually add the powdered sugar until fluffy.
  8. Layer crumbled cake and frosting in jars.
