Sweet Potato & Cranberry Gratin

A delicious and comforting dish combining the sweetness of sweet potatoes and tartness of cranberries, perfect for holiday dinners or family meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potatoes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Add half of the cranberries and half of the grated Gruyère cheese on top.
  4. Pour half of the heavy cream over the layers.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining sweet potatoes, cranberries, cheese, and cream.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with melted butter and thyme (if using).
  7. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top layer.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the sweet potatoes are tender.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Make sure to slice the sweet potatoes evenly for consistent cooking. You can use other cheeses like cheddar or mozzarella if Gruyère is not available.
