Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl and let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- Add flour, melted butter, and salt to the mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Roll the dough into ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda.
- Boil pretzel bites for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve with mustard, cheese sauce, or butter for dipping.
