Description

A quick and flavorful one-pot pasta dish with Italian sausage and cheese, perfect for busy weeknights.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brown the Italian sausage in a large pot over medium heat. Remove from the pot and set aside.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic to the same pot, sautéing until soft.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, and uncooked penne pasta. Stir well and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 12-15 minutes, until pasta is al dente.
  5. Stir in the cooked sausage and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Remove from heat, top with mozzarella cheese, cover until cheese melts.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For variation, use spicy sausage for heat or add bell peppers or spinach in step 2 for extra veggies.
